The starting point for this album is the traditional music from Oppdal. Two of the band members grew up playing this music and they have a special relation to it. Andreas Bjørkås specialises in the traditional music of Oppdal and won “Kongepokalen” (a prize endorsed by the King of Norway) at the Norwegian national fiddle competition,
Landskappleiken. In 2011, he released a solo album of fiddle tunes from Oppdal, “Veiskille” (which means “road fork”). Erlend Viken and Olav Christer Rossebø were guests on this album. This was such a successful collaboration, they wanted to make a trio album.
The Andreas Bjørkås Trio approaches the tradition with huge knowledge, respect and understanding. Through working with sound, exploring different arrangement ideas and instrumentation, they try to find a unique sound for each tune. Rather than being extraneous to the music, the goal of the arrangements is to amplifythe elements already existing within the music.
